IRCHA X FPV

                                              2016 IRCHA FPV SmackFest
                                                  Hosted by Smack FPV
                                                      IRCHA Jamboree
                                                          August 3 - 6

This year’s FPV event will be hosted in conjunction with the 2016 IRCHA Jamboree in Muncie, Indiana. The FPV SmackFest will be unlike any other FPV event ever held. Bring your gear and join in the fun with events such as Speed, Freestyle to Music, Endurance Racing, along with the traditional FPV Racing. The goal of SmackFest is for pilots to come out and have a good time. The atmosphere will feel much more laid back, as most RC Heli pilots are accustomed to. We invite you to come enjoy three days of FPV fun while at the world’s greatest flying site. Large monitors and a huge sound system will be set up for all spectators, bringing the fun of a heli event to FPV.
SmackFest Events

NOTE: For all events, top of the line ground stations will be provided- so pilots can simply walk up, plug their goggles into the ground station, power on their aircraft and fly!

Open Flying: With Open Flying, any pilots that want to come and fly in our racing course are welcome to do so at any time- period. No hassle, no fuss- just show up and fly. Top of the line ground stations will be provided, so pilots can simply walk up, plug their goggles into the ground station, power on their aircraft and fly.

Open Flying Rules:

All pilots must have a video transmitter that is 200mW or less
All pilots will fly while seated on/beside a designated area/ground station
All pilots will takeoff/land in the designated area (unless a pilot crashes)

Racing: FPV Racing- what more can we say! Pilots who would like to race during SmackFest can register online or at the site on Wednesday. Our custom race course has been designed to test the skill sets of all pilots - tight turns, wide open straight-away’s, and even a few surprises! We will be running seats of 4 racers at a time for optimum video quality. Time trials will be held on Wednesday, August 3. Time Trials will allow us to sort pilots into two categories and have two racing classes throughout the weekend. A third category of racing pilots will be created for those who cannot make Wednesday’s time trials.
Racing will be held on both Thursday and Friday, with a Championship race being held on Saturday.

Racing Rules:

All pilots must have a video transmitter that is 200mW or less
All pilots will fly while seated on/beside a designated area/ground station
All pilots will takeoff/land in the designated area (unless a pilot crashes)
All aircraft are limited to 5” propellers and a 4s Battery (LiHV Permitted)

Endurance Racing: So maybe going fast isn’t your thing, but you still enjoy racing? For this, we have created our endurance race. With Endurance Racing, it is all about maximizing your flight time while completing as many laps as possible. The rules are simple: The pilot who completes the most amount of laps wins! Remember the tortoise and the hare...
Endurance Racing Rules:

All pilots must have a video transmitter that is 200mW or less
All pilots will fly while seated on/beside a designated area/ground station
All pilots will takeoff/land in the designated area (unless a pilot crashes)
All aircraft are limited to 5” propellers and a 4s Battery (LiHV Permitted)
Maximum permitted battery size: 4s 1550mah (Please don’t try to cheat/push the rules here- remember... You are racing toy drones... Really???)

Freestyle to Music: As RC Helicopter pilots who have flown in competitions / Fun Fly’s for the last decade, we understand what freestyle is all about. With the Freestyle to Music competition, pilots can throw down and show us what really makes FPV fun. Unlike most Freestyle competitions, we are incorporating the aspect of choreographing a flight to music in the Freestyle. We feel that music can take a good flight and make it outstanding. In Freestyle, pilots will have 2 minutes to show the crowd the most original, intense, and creative flights possible. With the aspect of music added, we are stoked to see what pilots will come up with.

Freestyle to Music Rules:

All pilots must have a video transmitter that is 200mW or less
All pilots will fly while seated on/beside a designated area/ground station
All pilots will takeoff/land in the designated area (unless a pilot crashes)
All aircraft are limited to 5” propellers and a 4s Battery (LiHV Permitted)
All flights will be 2 minutes in length
Reversing ESC’s are permitted but not required
All pilots must submit music to the FPV SmackFest committee before the actual event begins.

All music can be submitted on site via mp3 submission- or pilots can simply give the DJ their phone/mp3 player before their flight

Freestyle to music will be judged on the following criteria: originality, precision, wow factor, flight envelope, difficulty and choreography. (We can discuss these??)

Speed: Everyone likes to go fast! The Speed competition lets pilots unleash their inner speed demon and attempt to push the envelope in drone performance. In the Speed competition, pilots will have one chance to fly through a gate as fast as possible. We will take the top fastest pilots and have a finals speed race on Saturday. During the speed competition, only one pilot will fly at a time. Pilots will take off their aircraft and fly straight through one designated gate xx feet away. This gate has a timer system built in which will allow us to calculate the aircraft’s speed.

Speed Rules:

All pilots must have a video transmitter that is 200mW or less
All pilots will fly while seated on/beside a designated area/ground station
All pilots will takeoff/land in the designated area (unless a pilot crashes)
All aircraft are limited to 5” propellers and a 4s Battery (LiHV Permitted)
